One of the most powerful analytics type programs that is available to us is called Google Search Console. Google Search Console is essentially analytics for how well your website ranks in search engines. (At the end of this tutorial I will include a video that shows you some Search Engine Console data for a hair salon and some managerial implication you might take away based on the data).

Google Search Console seamlessly links with Analytics so that we can get some really impressive insights. This tutorial will show you how to set up Google Search Console and link it to your Google Analytics.

One plugins that we may use to install Google Search Console is Yoast. Let’s go ahead and get that installed first. Go to plugins in your WordPress dashboard and click Add New

Then search for YOAST and install and activate the YOAST SEO Plugin. After that continue to the steps below.

How To Install Google Search Console Into A WordPress Website

Before doing this make sure you have Google Analytics installed into your WordPress website as it will make this process much easier.

Next, go to the following URL:

https://search.google.com/search-console/about

You should see a screen that looks something like this:

Google Search Console Welcome Screen

Click START NOW

You will need to enter your URL and click “Add a property.” Copy the URL from the address bar of your browser and enter it where it says Site URL.  If you type the URL in manually then it sometimes does not register without the http://

Verifying property in Google Search Console

If you are logged into your Google Analytics, when you click “Add Property” it should auto verify as shown below:

If that does not work then you will have to verify the property manually in your WordPress dashboard.

There are multiple ways to do this but we will do it the easiest way which is copying a piece of meta data from GSC and then pasting it into our Yoast program.

YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THE NEXT STEP  IF GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE DOES NOT AUTO VERIFY YOUR WEBSITE. IF IT AUTO-VERIFIES THEN YOU CAN SKIP TO THE SECTION WHERE IT SAYS “Connecting Google Search Console To Your Google Analytics”

The image below shows you how to get the meta tag. Click on the “HTML tag” in the “Other Verification Methods” and then copy the tag.

Verify A Website With Google Search Console Using A HTML Tag

In Yoast click “General” then click on “Webmaster Tools” at the top.  Here you need to enter your meta tag from Google Search Console.  You can paste the entire line and Yoast will pull the information it needs. One you enter it click “Save Changes”

Verifying Google Search Console With Meta Tag In Yoast

Go back to your Search console page and click verify. If you did everything correctly you will see this page:

Website Verified in Google Search Console

You can “Go To Property” and look around or close out your GSC.  There won’t be any data yet but Google will start to collect information about your website and there should be some information there in a few weeks.

Connecting Google Search Console To Your Google Analytics

Once you have your Google Search Console set up you can connect it to your Google analytics account.

To do this sign into you analytics and go into your Admin section.

1. Explain your graphic design experience My history with graphic design has been brief but fruitful. I was first introduced to graphic design and website design about 2 months ago in my Digital Marketing class at CSU. We had an assignment where we created self-hosted WordPress websites for actual clients. I found designing websites to be so much fun and I went all in with it. I created a new website for Choice City Butcher which is a local restaurant in Fort Collins. This is my very first website which was created using a WordPress template and Canva. Here is the link to my Choice City Butcher website: INSERT LINK Knowing that I would be limited with templates and Canva I knew I needed to learn Photoshop. I quit my job the next weekend and taught myself Photoshop in two days using YouTube and Lynda. I then applied what I learned to redraw the entire Choice City Butcher website. Now I am practicing my Photoshop skills and working on other client websites every day. This is proof that any knowledge and skills can be learned as long as there are strong passion and great determination. 2. Photography/Video Experience I enjoy taking photographs of food and people as well as different places that I have been to, then share them on social media such as Facebook and especially Instagram. I have been receiving a lot of compliments from my friends and Instagram followers. Although I have not had much professional photography or video experience, I cannot wait to pick up new skills and become an expert in this field. 3. What do you believe in the future of social media? Social media is moving towards automation. To be more specific, there has been a rapid increase in the number of companies using AI, machine learning and Chatbots to try to automate the communication process with customers. A company receives thousands of questions, requests and complaints every day while IWWIWWIWI (I Want What I Want When I Want It) is the current dynamic. As the customers are not willing to wait, the automatic responding system not only provides instant responses but also collects information about the customer’s issues. However, I believe this trend hurts more than it helps. Due to the tech-driven era, people have fewer interactions with each other. This results in the want for being listened and understood. In addition, people also have a higher demand for the sense of being special; they want to be respected and empathized. And it is clear that automation does not meet those needs. The customers know that they are talking to a machine and listening to the same conversation every time they reach out while they want to be listened to by a specialist. In general, the predicted trend may be efficient but not quite effective in communication. Communication, or marketing, is all about building trust and engaging people. In order to make connections, emotional bonds need to be established, which cannot be done by automation. My prediction is that emotion-provoking marketing campaigns are likely to take over in response to the trend of automation.

Then you will see a screen that looks like this:

Adding An Analytics Property To Google Search Console

Click on “Add”

You will see a list of all your analytics properties.  Find the one you are linking to and click the dial and then click SAVE and then NEXT  if you get a popup asking you to confirm.

Selecting Your Analytics Property to link to Google Search Console

Once it works you should be able to see a screen similar to the image below.  If you do not then click on ADMIN (bottom left) –> ALL PRODUCTS (middle column under Product Linking).  Then you should see that the search console is connected.
