If you need to edit an image quickly from any computer (MacBook or Windows) on quick site that is free to use is PhotoPea. This post will show you how to do two common edits to images that you need to know if you are making a WordPress website.

How to select a portion of an image

One common thing you need to know when working with images in WordPress is how to select a portion of an image. You might have a big photo but you only need a portion of it. To select a portion of an image got to PhotoPea and load your image. The image below shows two ways that you can upload an image.

You can see in the image below that I uploaded a large image of two boys.  Hypothetically I may need only a small portion of the image.  To grab a smaller portion of the image I first click on the rectangle select tool and then drag my cursor over the section of the image that I want.

Next we want to cut out that section so I will usually hit the Control button  (CTRL on your keyboard) and then the letter X.  So CTRL+X. You can also go to the menu at the top and click on EDIT then CUT as shown in the image below.

Next you need to open a new image.  Go to the top of your menu and select FILE then NEW as shown below.

You will see a new screen with a lot of options.  Do not change anything.  Just click the create button:

Click Create On The Screen That Pops Up

You will now have a blank Canvas in PhotoPea that matches the size of your selected image.

We just need to paste what we cut from the original image into this blank canvas. I do this by hitting Control and V (CTR+V).  You can also go up to the menu and select Edit Then Paste.

Now you will see your selected image and you can continue working on the image from there.  If that was all you needed just save the image and give it a unique name so you know it is the edited image.
